“When we educate a child […] we are sowing the seeds of a stronger, more resilient nation. We are investing in a future where every Zambian can contribute to the growth and development of our country, regardless of their background or circumstances.”Douglas Syakalima, Zambian Minister of Education.

We are over the moon to announce the ground-breaking ceremonies of two new PEAS schools in Zambia – PEAS Pembele in Chirundu District and PEAS Chikalaba in Sinda District.

PEAS Pembele Secondary School is crucial for the Chirundu District, Southern Province, where the only secondary schools are overcrowded day schools with limited student capacity. PEAS Pembele will be the district’s first boarding school. At the ground-breaking ceremony in Chirundu, we were honoured by the presence of Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima, who celebrated the event in his own constituency. Local leadership, including the chieftainess, the council chairperson, and district officials, attended the event. Local children added to the celebration with dance, poetry, and drama, representing the excitement within the community.

PEAS Chikalaba Secondary School, located in Sinda District, Eastern Province, will address the lack of affordable boarding school options in the area. PEAS Chikalaba is built on land generously provided by the local chieftainess. The community has come together to contribute local building materials, further demonstrating the collective commitment to education. PEAS Chikalaba represents more than a new school – it also deepens our partnership with our friends at Impact Network as we collaborate to improve education across the Eastern Province.

Both schools will offer vital facilities including science labs, and ICT labs, ensuring students are equipped with 21st-century skills. Scheduled for completion by January, they will welcome a new cohort of students to the 2025 academic year and each will have capacity to educate 440 students, with 160 dormitory spaces.

Thank you to our key partner Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office for their invaluable support in bringing these schools to life.

These events mark the beginning of a transformative journey, one that will impact not just the students but also their families, communities, and the nation at large. By expanding access to education, PEAS is contributing to Zambia’s future, ensuring that every child can thrive and succeed, regardless of their background.
