We are proud to announce that PEAS has won the UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education, which honours outstanding and innovative contributions to advance girls’ and women’s education. This award celebrates our efforts to empower thousands of marginalised girls across Uganda.

At PEAS, our mission is about more than just getting girls into school; it’s about supporting them to succeed. We foster safe, nurturing environments where girls can truly thrive. Our Girls’ Clubs are designed to build confidence, while our gender-responsive teacher training accelerates their learning. More than half of PEAS’ 16,000 students in Uganda are girls, and we’re seeing their futures transform in ways their communities never imagined.

Winning this award reinforces our belief in the importance of our work and the impact we are making. If you want to learn more about our holistic approach to empowering girls and the innovative initiatives we have in place that contributed to this recognition, click here.

We’d like to also congratulate CAMFED, our fellow laureate and partner, for their remarkable work supporting girls’ education in Africa. We partner with CAMFED to address a key barrier faced by girls when accessing a secondary education. With CAMFED’s support, we’ve been able to get more girls into boarding, and foster the development of life skills, leadership and rights advocacy amongst our female students. We’re working side-by-side to pave the way for a brighter future for girls across the continent.

Henry Senkasi, Country Director in Uganda, is currently in Paris to accept this esteemed award on behalf of PEAS. His leadership and dedication to our mission have been instrumental in achieving this recognition. We extend our gratitude to Henry and the entire PEAS Uganda team for their unwavering commitment to supporting marginalised girls.
