PEAS is a not-for-profit that expands access to inclusive, quality secondary education across Sub-Saharan Africa by running schools and improving the wider education system.
Our vision is a world where all children enjoy an education that unlocks their full potential. To achieve this our mission is to expand access to inclusive, quality secondary education across Sub-Saharan Africa.
PEAS is one of the largest secondary school networks in Sub-Saharan Africa. Each year, over 19,000 students learn at our 36 schools in rural communities across Uganda and Zambia. Drawing on our practical experience, we work hand in hand with governments to improve the wider education system.
We have 15 years’ experience building and running high quality, inclusive secondary schools in hard-to-reach communities in Uganda and Zambia with a particular focus on addressing barriers for adolescent girls in rural communities.
We provide world-class support and supervision to our schools to ensure that they provide high-quality, relevant education. Across all our work, we ensure that girls are supported to overcome the barriers they face in attending and succeeding at school.
Evidence shows school leaders are the key to driving improvement in their schools. Our schools are proof that with the right support and tools, school leaders can create safer schools, with better teaching and learning in a cost-efficient way.
Our multi-faceted approach helps girls to overcome barriers, build confidence and learn essential life skills in a safe school environment.
Our school leaders are trained to create gender-inclusive school cultures, tackle gender inequitable attitudes, and work closely with the wider community to leverage their support for girls’ education.
Our senior women teachers act as role models and mentors to girls, tackle gender stereotypes, and provide pastoral support.
Evidence shows that girls at our schools feel safer, learn faster, develop more relevant skills and make more successful transitions than girls at other schools.
PEAS builds schools in areas where there is limited access to secondary education. We support the most marginalised with a particular focus on supporting girls.
PEAS believes that teachers and school leaders are the spark for change. We provide training and support to ensure they are empowered to deliver great education in their schools.
Our schools and system strengthening programmes are low-cost and sustainable. They are run by Africans for Africans.
We want stronger, more consistent education systems at every level. Where top priority is given to student safety and learning. And where educators are given the tools and resources needed to make a difference.
We combine our first-hand experience of running secondary schools with a systems mindset. Our approach moves beyond just policy development which is often not put into practice. We use the tools, team and experience built up over 15 years to address the root causes rather than delivering standalone programmes that only address an immediate, surface-level need.
